RestEaze is the first ambulatory, remote-monitoring device designed to aid in the diagnosis of sleep disorders (RLS, PLMD, insomnia, and ADHD), and treatment management of RLS and PLMD.

Using a combination of an inertial measurement unit, patented capacitive sensor, photoplethysmography, and body temperature data, RestEaze characterizes leg movements and periodic leg movements during sleep (LMS, PLMS) and their relationship to autonomic and cortical arousal events using advanced machine learning.

Leg Movement Detection

Signal processing and machine learning algorithms work to accurately label Leg Movements during Sleep (LMS), PLMS and Arousals.

Multi-Night Recording

Measuring night-to-night variability in sleep behavior is a problem for PSG recordings that are often limited to a single night. We design our products for multi-night recording to ensure screening reliability.

Innovation in Sleep Monitoring

A new approach to LMS characterization.

The Problem

LMS are typically measured in an in-lab setting, through EMG measures, which are intrusive and impractical. A different approach is needed to be able to comfortable and affordably monitor LMS and PLMS over time.

Inertial Measures

Inertial measurements are taken from the ankle. Accelerometry and gyroscopy measures are used to detect general leg movement and periods of restlessness.

Foot and Toe Flexions

While many movements are captured by ankle based motion, many periodic leg movements are comprised fully or in-part of motion of the feet and toes. While compound leg motions may be captured by an IMU, foot and toe flexions can occur with little to no ankle motion.

Capacitive Distance Sensing

In order to capture motion of the feet and toes, capacitive distance sensing is used, through textile capacitive sensors. These sensors pick up the motion of nearby objects and the environmental movement they may cause.

What does RestEaze consist of?

Components

RestEaze is an end-to-end solution, solving the problem of recording, analyzing and remotely monitoring leg movement during sleep with minimal patient interaction. Components include the sensor hardware, a smartphone app for device interaction and a web server for data storage and subject management.
Wearable Sensor

RestEaze Sleep Band

The RestEaze sleep band is a patented ankle-worn wearable with in-built capacitive textile sensors, 9-axis inertial measurement unit, a photoplethysmography, and a temperature sensors for characterizing leg movements during sleep. Data can be streamed from the device in real-time, or stored locally for later offload.

Mobile App

RestEaze Mobile

The RestEaze mobile app (currently available for Android, coming soon for iOS) receives and stores raw sensor data, which is saved to local device files or uploaded to the Tanzen Medical server for storage. Visualizations for nightly sleep data are available, and sleep hygiene suggestions are coming soon!

Cloud

Tanzen Med Server

Tanzen Med's backend server stores, and makes available for download, raw data as well as the output from our analytics, which are run at the end of each night's recording. Users can view their Dashboard to see their nightly and aggregated statistics. Administrative users can view physician oriented plots and statistics for each of their subjects.
